We surveyed 72 Bruins about their knowledge and habits regarding sustainability on campus at UCLA.
Here's what they said:
91.7%
(66 out of 72)
Did you know?
All to-go dining material on the Hill is compostable, except for chip bags and condiment wrappers.

knew about UCLA's goal to be zero waste by 2020.
UCLA also just announced that it would be phasing out single-use plastics campus-wide beginning this summer!
When asked to rate how comfortable they were with identifying what was recyclable (1 for not at all comfortable and 5 for very comfortable), most students were pretty confident...

...but they seemed less certain about identifying what was compostable.

So here's how!

Most students didn’t want to go out and join a sustainability club,

but over half said they still wanted to learn about more ways they could be sustainable here at UCLA.

Did you know?
FEAST at Rieber serves an entirely vegetarian menu on Mondays, and all dining halls go beef-less on Thursdays!
So here's
how!
Try to wash your clothes on a cold setting.
It doesn’t only help save energy, but it also saves money and makes your clothes last longer!
Reduce your intake of meat.
Not everyone can be vegan, we know. But even a little bit of consciousness can go a long way. Eat more of foods with the green earth sign on dining hall menus and less of the red earth foods to keep that carbon footprint low. Participate in Meatless Mondays, skip that steak every other day, or even go pescatarian if you’re able.
Invest in a set of reusable utensils and straws.
Always keep a set in your bag so you always remember to use it!
